Mark Austin Mark Austin Likes: Any kind of motorcycle, classic cars, photography, ideas and interesting people. Dislikes: Wankers from any walk of life - politics, corporates, competition... Hypocracy, too many f...ing rules. Bikes: 1983 Honda CR480RD, 1978 Honda CR250RZ, lots of Bultacos, a couple of Ossas, more than a few road bikes - even a few Vespas... I started riding when I was about 14 years old. I spent at least 18 months trying to talk my father into letting me buy a trailbike that I had saved up for, and after he was finally worn down, I found myself the proud owner of a 1972 Honda SL125 - it even came with a go-faster Bassini exhaust! The next bike was a XL175, then a Bultaco Frontera (which I still have), a Ducati Darmah and a Honda CB750F1 in the UK. I had a rest for a few years after witnessing two deaths on bikes being involved in a couple of nasty accidents. So for about 10 years, including a few years in New York, I didn't ride a bike at all (even though I still had two at my parents place). A few years after I got back from New York, I decided to rebuild the Bultaco that my brother Brian had tried to rebuild. After finishing that and another along the way, Brian introduced me to the HEAVEN VMX Club at Oran Park, and that was that, I was right back into it again!
That was in 1999 and I have been racing VMX consistently since then, never up the front, but always having fun with all the other maniacs. I acquired a few Hondas along the way, a 1984 CR250RE, a 1983 CR480RD (which I love) and Bwuce is building me a 1978 CR250RZ, which should be ready soon. |
